Built in white marble, the mausoleum features curved arches in the Moorish style. The upper framework is made out of copper and is based on a flat platform that extends to an area of about 54 square meters. There is a successive row of fountains that lead to the platform from one side whereas the terraced avenues near it lead to the gates.

Around the mausoleum is a park which features powerful lights. At night these lights project on the white structure of the mausoleum making it appear more prominent and splendid. Despite being located in the midst of the city, the mausoleum manages to retain a rather serene ambience within its surroundings.

Inside the Jinnah Mausoleum

The inner sanctum contains a four layered crystal chandelier, a gift from the People’s Republic of China, which lends the chamber an aristocratic elegance. Apart from Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the Mazar-e-Quaid also houses the graves of the first Prime Minister of Pakistan – Liaqat Ali Khan, and Jinnah’s sister – Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah.

The graves located within the complex are all box type and built out of pure Italian white marble. All the graves are plain except for the one of Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah which is decorated in black floral designs.

At the back of the mausoleum is an exciting but poorly run museum where Jinnah’s personal belongings are kept. The area comes under Navy’s jurisdiction and one can find plenty of Navy Jawans guarding the structure. Military and official functions are observed here on specific days like the birth and death anniversaries of the leaders.
